“HOW & WHY I LEARNED TO UNCLOG SEWER DRAINS WITH THE CLOG BLASTER JETTER HOSE”
When I bought my septic tank cleaning business four years ago, I really was starting from scratch, since I had no prior experience in the field.
Thankfully, septic tank cleaning is not rocket science so I did learn pretty quickly. One of theWhen I bought my septic tank cleaning business four years ago, I really was starting from scratch, since I had no prior experience in the field.
One of the first things I found out was that more often than not, when I finished pumping the septic tank out there would still be a clog in either the drain line leading to the tank or the drain line from the septic tank to the ditch. This means that when I finished my job, the owner would still have to call a plumber (paying an additional $100 to $150) to deal with the clogged drain lines.
Since I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck, it wasn’t long before I could see that there would be a savings to the customer and an income advantage for me if I added “drain cleaning” to my repertoire of services. But how???
The “But how?” is a difficult one isn’t it? When we don’t understand something, it is often a defeating block to get over…you know, sometimes we just feel too inept to attempt something that at the face of it looks hard to do. But the advantages of learning to clean drains were too good to pass up, so I had to get over the block and just dive in!
“What is The Best Solution to Unclog
Drains?”
I kept putting it off, but after a few months I finally decided to learn the surest, easiest, most economical way to unclog drains. I eliminated the roto-router cable drain method right off as it was very heavy to lug around with me on the truck and it can be dangerous to employ. Worst, it sometimes will break or score the most commonly used drain pipe, which is made out of PVC (plastic).
I finally hit upon what they call “Sewer Jetting”, which uses a special, slippery-surfaced, high pressure hose with a spray nozzle at one end with a forward penetrating hole and three holes along the sides pointing backwards to scour the pipe and to help push the nozzle and the hose forward through the pipe…as pictured below:
The other end of the hose is attached to a high pressure water pump, which powers the nozzle through up to hundreds of feet of drain line! So then, it can reach distances that are greater than what a roto-router cable can reach and it will not damage the plastic PVC drain pipe.
The only real problem was the Sewer Jetting units are usually very heavy and mounted on trucks or mounted on a trailer. I finally did discover units that were hooked up to pressure washers, and this proved to be the best solution for me and so I built my own pressure washer jetter hose and this is what it looks like. I call it the:
“THE CLOG BLASTER™”
I made my “Clog BLASTER™” jetter hose to fit any residential/consumer pressure washer as is, right out of the box! The only issue I have found is that the special high pressure jetter hose has a very strong coiling memory which makes it very hard to handle without using some type of hose real to stretch the hose out and coil it in after use. My easiest to mount, lightest and most economical solution is to buy a $20 garden hose real and mount it like this:
As you can see, I drilled a few holes in the power washer tubing and bolted the plastic garden hose reel bracket to it. Where the plastic hole didn’t match up I used tie-wraps to keep it held down. Then I took all of the garden hose fittings out of the plastic reel and it was ready to accommodate my CLOG BLASTER™ pictured below:
Here is the Clog Blaster™ hooked up and ready for action!!
This is all there is to it! The hose reel mount does not get in the way of using the pressure washer for normal cleaning activities, and when you have a clogged drain, the hose real slips on in an instant and your pressure washer becomes a CLOG BLASTER™ drain jetter!
After I assembled my Clog Blaster™, I found that it was so easy to transport! I just keep the hose reel inside the truck with me and I mount the pressure washer to the side of my truck.
“My Experience With The Clog Blaster™ Jetter
Hose”
What a difference this jetter system has made in the service I am able to offer! And you know, I never did receive any training on the use of the Clog Blaster jetter hose…it was simply that easy!
Now, instead of receiving calls for septic tank cleaning exclusively, for the last three years I have been receiving calls everyday clean out clogs as well. I clean out bathroom toilets (with the seat removed), kitchen sinks, tubs and all 4″ drain lines leading to and from the septic tank. I charge anywhere from $100 to $150 for each drain cleaning service call and I now offer the Clog Buster drain cleaning included in the septic tank cleaning price…which really pleases my customers. It is just a real comfort to me to know that when I drive away that I no longer just clean a septic tank, I solve the problem!!!!
Ok, now let’s take a look at a few videos that will show you just how easy “you” can convert your own power washer into a Clog Blaster™ and how easy it is to unclog your own drains:
